DLP 2015 Second challenge

Sigo con el art journal. El reto para la segunda semana es Gesso y la frase que puede servirnos de inspiración es : "The beginning is always today" de Mary Shelley (algo así como que cada día es un nuevo comienzo).

More art journal. The second week art challenge is Gesso. Journal prompt: "The beginning is always today" by Mary Shelley.

Empecé mi página realizando un collage con trozos de hojas de un libro antiguo, Tissue Wrap de Tim Holtz y algunos motivos escogidos de servilletas. Encima del collage apliqué gesso transparente para conservar los motivos que quería destacar y poder aplicar tintas, acrílicas o cualquier otro medio. Para el color utilicé los sprays de Prima Color Bloom y fui aplicando gesso blanco para crear texturas y unificar el conjunto. Por último, para crear algo de contraste y movimiento, mezclé gel medium extra heavy con Primary elements en un tono marronoso y lo apliqué con un stencil de Prima.

For the background, I started creating a collage with and old book sheets, Tissue Wrap by Tim Holtz and some images from napkins. Over that, I applied clear gesso to keep part of the background but being able to apply any media. To colorize, I used Prima Color Bloom sprays and further applied white gesso to create some textures and unify the background. Finally, to give the overall some contrast and movement, I mixed extra heavy gel medium with Primary elements and applied the mix through a stencil. 

Como journalling, un combinado de letras de Prima y de Thickers con la frase "A new start today".  Como veréis, los motivos que destaco en mi página son un Buda, relojes y mariposas como símbolos del paso del tiempo, de vivir el presente y de la transformación. 

For the journalling, letters from Prima and Thickers reading "A new start today". As you will see, I have left some images visible: the Buda, clocks and butterflies to express the pass of time, the importance to enjoy the present and transformation.

Tim Holtz - 12 tags of 2015 - January

Enero está casi acabado pero he podido cumplir con mi cita mensual para el reto de Tim Holtz. Este mes, la propuesta es un tag con mucho glitter y profusión de dorados, siguiendo las tendencias que ya se han ido viendo en el CHA. January is almost over but fortunately I have been able to cope with the deadline for Tim Holtz's challenge. This month, the proposed tag is full of glitter and gold, following the new trends shown at CHA. Here you have the link to Tim's blog where you will find the original tag and a step by step tutorial. 

Yo he aplicado los tonos más amarillos y dorados en el fondo del tag y he utilizado el color rojo para los adornos. El fondo trabajado con Tissue Wrap de la colección Postale, distress paints y tintas en spray. Los números son piezas de Alpha Parts Numeric con distress glitter y sobre la palabra he aplicado distress paint dándole un toque desgastado. Los números están adornados con estrellas y gum drops teñidos en dorado con tintas en alcohol. Para acabar, unos cuantos stickers con palabras inspiradoras para el nuevo año y algunos adornos metálicos. El toque final con salpicaduras de distress stain en spray en blanco (Picket fence) y en color dorado. 

I have used yellowish and golden colours for the background and red for the embellishments. On the background, I have glued Tissue Wrap Postale, and then applied distress paints and spray inks, The numbers are from Alpha Parts Numeric and have been embellished with distress glitter. I have painted the word "twenty" with Distress paint which I have wiped off randomly to give it a worn look. I have completed the numbers with some stars and one gum drop previously coloured in gold with alcohol inks. I have added some stickers with inspiring words for the new year and some metallic embellishments. As a final touch, some splatters in white and gold with distress stain sprays.

Nuevo Año, Nuevos Proyectos

Casi sin darnos cuenta, estamos metidos de lleno en 2015!! Al cerrar 2014, he echado la vista atrás y hago un balance muy positivo. La vida siempre está llena de luces y sombras pero me quedo con las luces y lo que he podido aprender de las sombras. Y, a partir de aquí, me planteo qué me gustaría hacer en este nuevo año. 

Almost  without noticing it, we are fully inside 2015!! I make a very positive balance of 2014. Life is full of lights and shadows but I decide keeping lights and also learnings I can take from shadows. And, from now onwards, I take decisions as to what I would like to do in the new year. 

He decidido mantener algunos de los proyectos iniciados en 2014, como la participación en los 12 tags de Tim Holtz: me sigue encantando trabajar con los tags y me sigue encantando lo que hace Tim Holtz. Y ahora me diréis que me falta el tag de diciembre. Y es verdad!! Me han jugado una mala pasada los retrasos de correos habituales en Navidad. Así que mi pedido con materiales que había encargado para este tag llegó ¡¡¡¡¡el 12 de enero!!!!! Una barbaridad, verdad? En cualquier caso, no renuncio a hacer el tag y lo publicaré próximamente, aunque ya ni peguen los renos, ni el "Merry Christmas" ni nada. 

I have decided to keep some of the projects I started in 2014, such as participating in Tim holtz's 12 tags challenge: I enjoy working with tags and I adore Tim's style. And, now, you will say that my December tag is missing. And it is true! My order did not arrive on time once more but I do not renounce to do it even after Christmas. So I will publish soon about it. 

Un proyecto en el que estoy trabajando y que quedó inacabado en 2014 es el Diario de Navidad. Pronto os podré enseñar algunas fotos. Va despacito pero avanzando. 

I have one unfinished project which is the Christmas daily. I hope I will be able to show some photos soon. It goes a bit slowly but at least it goes. 

Y, como proyecto nuevo, el Documented Life Project (DLP 2015). Se trata de un proyecto promovido entre otras personas por Robben Marie Smith y la idea es documentar nuestras vivencias, emociones y sentimientos a través del arte. El medio elegido? El art journal. Como es uno de los aspectos que tenía muchas ganas de trabajar este año, he decidido seguirlo y estoy disfrutando un montón. Podéis encontrar información en Art to the 5th Academy. Es de acceso libre, puedes contar con la inspiración de super grandes artistas y puedes participar en la medida que quieras/puedas. 

Para 2015, la propuesta era trabajar con el Journal de Dylussions que, casualmente, tenía en casa sin estrenar... Para empezar, la decoración de la portada. Para ello, he utilizado las acrílicas Silks de ColourArte. Son pinturas acrílicas pero a las que se ha añadido un pigmento por lo que los acabados son brillantes con colores vibrantes y definidos. Os las recomiendo!! 

And as a new project, the Documented Life Project (DLP 2015). It has been promoted, among other artists, by Robben Marie Smith. The idea behind is to document our life, emotions and sentiments through art. The proposal consists in working in an art journal during 2015 with the Dylussions journal. You can find further information at  Art to the 5th Academy. To begin with, I have altered the cover. For this purpose, I have used Silks acrylics by ColourArte. So recommendable!

Y mi primera página con el primer reto. El tema de enero es el miedo a la página en blanco y la técnica propuesta para la primera semana es trabajar con papel de libro (incluye revistas, sobres, partituras, etc). El hilo conductor sería "Gestiono mis propios objetivos".

And my first page, with the first challenge. The January theme is The Blank page and how to face it! And the Art Challenge is book paper. Journal prompt: Be your own Goal Keeper. 

Con estos elementos, empecé imprimando mi página con gesso y la pinté con acrílica en dos tonos de azul, buscando una gradación del color. Apliqué después pintura fucsia con una paleta para conseguir una textura diferente. También hice algunas marcas para que no fuera uniforme. Estampación con Archival negra y un sello de Prima para lograr más textura. Como veréis, el papel de libro no lo he incorporado en el fondo sino en los elementos de la página: algunos con estampación de sellos y otros troquelados. El journaling con letras de revistas y mecanografiados en la vieja máquina de escribir que hace poco me traje de casa de mis padres.

I started priming my page with gesso and covered it with acrylic paint in two different tones of blue seeking for a colour gradation. I then applied fucsia with a palette knife making random marks to achieve some texture. Some stamping with Archival ink in black and a Prima stamp. I have used the book paper not for the background but for the elements on the page: some through stamping and some other by die cutting several hearts. For the journaling I have used letters from one magazine and typed the others with an old typewriter.
